Pulau Pinang, Pearl of the Orient

Last weekend during Hari Raya Ailiadha (also known as Hari Raya Haji), I was in my dad's hometown, in Kampung Tasek, Simpang Ampat, Pulau Pinang. Pulau Pinang or Penang in the English Language is one of the states in Peninsular Malaysia. It is located in the northern region of Malaysia and consists of an island and a land. This island is called Pulau Mutiara or Pearl of the Orient.

Since it was quite some time I did not come here, it was a nice getaway from work. My family in Penang made a kenduri in remembrance of those who passed away in the family so a cow was needed for the kenduri. I get to witness the decapitation of the cow. This is to mark the religious act of sacrifice in Aidiladha. This is called Qurban in the Arabic language.

I went to Queensbay Mall, in Penang Island. It was one the latest shopping malls to be build in Penang which is now really in rapid development. One thing I like about Queensbay Mall is because it has my favorite bookstore, Borders. Other tenants were Jusco, Baskin Robbins, McDonald's and Laksa Shack. Yummy! :-D

Famous for it's Char Kuey Teow delicacy, Penang is a haven for food! I had the pleasure of having Char Kuey Teow in Bukit Mertajam. Food lovers will absolutely enjoy the exquisite taste of the traditional fried white noodles served with fresh prawns and pickled chillies. If you have the chance to come down to Penang, especially if you're around Bukit Mertajam, do try out the famous Char Kuey Teow, at Kampung Pelet, Bukit Mertajam. You won't regret it! I had 3 plates my self! :-D

Perodua's Latest Attraction - Perodua Alza, The MPV

Perodua has recently launched a new MPV, called Perodua Alza. The MPV is a dashing good looking car with a sporty new look. Some of it's exciting features are 15" alloy rims, rear spoiler, projector headlamps, electric side mirrors with turn signals (just like the kind found in the Perodua MyVi).

Sporting in 6 different colors; Pearl White, Classy Purple, Ebony Black, Medallion Grey, Glittering Silver and Ivory White, Perodua Alza will surely be a hit amongst Malaysian drivers who prefer classy looking vehicle with spacious boot space to boot (pun intended).

Here are some pics to catch a glimpse of the car:

It almost looks like Honda Stream doesn't it?

5 Star Defoe

Spurs supporters were left shocked, dazed and thrilled by this stunning display, where Jermain Defoe took top billing by scoring an amazing five goals.

Humiliated Wigan boss Roberto Martinez called it a “freak” result – but it was more than that. It was magical.

And the incredible thing is that despite conceding nine, Wigan goalkeeper Chris Kirkland pulled off some fine saves.

This will go down in history among Tottenham fans, who will forever ask each other: ‘Were you there?’

At half-time it looked like it would be a run-of-the-mill victory for Spurs, who were ahead through Peter Crouch’s headed opener and looking to wrap the game up.

But nobody could have predicted the second-half explosion and the glut of goals which lit up White Hart Lane. Spurs became only the second team in Premier League history to score nine goals after Manchester United beat Ipswich 9-0 in 1995.

It was Tottenham’s best win for 32 years after they thrashed Bristol Rovers in the old Second Division.

And it does not stop there, for deadly Defoe’s performance was breathtaking. Only United’s Andy Cole and Newcastle legend Alan Shearer have ever scored five goals in a Premier League game before, with Defoe fully deserving to be in the same category as those brilliant hitmen.

Every time the Spurs striker took aim, he scored.

His hat-trick was quite stunning, and it almost happened in a blur. Defoe had already hit the crossbar in the first half but in the second he was on fire. Winger Aaron Lennon provided the ammunition, while Defoe fired bullet shots past Kirkland.

November isn’t just a time for big games to launch. It’s traditionally a time when game consoles make their big splash in the States. With the exception of the PlayStation 2 and the PSP, every major game console of this decade has launched in November in the US. Today’s the three year anniversary of the PlayStation 3’s American launch. Over the next few days, many of us will be taking a look at each of the major consoles, their history up to now, and the prognosis for 2010.

Bizarre Treatment for Van Persie

Arsenal striker Robin Van Persie is set to try an unorthodox method of treatment in a desperate bid to speed up his recovery from an ankle injury.

Van Persie's former team-mate Danko Lazovic has experienced the Serbian housewife's healing powers first-hand.

The Dutchman will have placenta rubbed into the damaged area by a Serbian housewife who successfully healed a former Feyenoord team-mate Danzo Lazovic.

Van Persie is expected to fly out to Belgrade on Tuesday, with the backing of manager Arsene Wenger, to seek the services of Mariana Kovacevic - who has a reputation for drastically speeding up the recovery times of those she treats.

Lazovic, now of PSV, visited the housewife last month after suffering a hamstring injury that was expected to rule him out for five weeks. But after having the placenta fluid rubbed into the affected area, the Serbian striker returned to action after just one week out.

"She is vague about her methods but I know that she first massages you for a long time with placenta fluid," Van Persie said. "I am going to give it a try.

"It can't do any harm and if it helps, it helps. I've been in contact with Arsenal's chief physio about it. The club has allowed me to have this treatment done."

Van Persie, who ruptured ligaments in his right ankle during a friendly against Italy last weekend, decided to take drastic action after two separate doctors in Holland both told the striker he faces at least six weeks out.

Top 20 Windows 7 Tips

Just got your hands on Windows 7 and want to bend it to your will? No problem. We've got plenty of tips, hacks and secrets to keep you busy for a long time, including automatically opening Windows Explorer to a folder of your choice, speeding up taskbar thumbnails, finding hidden desktop themes, forcing User Account Control to act the way you'd like, keeping your Explorer searches secret from others, and more.
So check out these tips. If you like them, we'll keep more coming.
Also see the Gallery of the Best Windows 7 Tweaks.

General tips

We'll start with a few nifty tips that can make your desktop more interesting, make it easier to get around and increase your computer's power efficiency.

Use Hidden International Wallpapers and Themes

When you first install Windows 7, it asks for your language, time and currency. Based on your responses, it installs a set of wallpapers and themes. If you choose English (United States) for your time and currency format, for example, the available desktop backgrounds and themes will include a United States section with scenery from locations such as Maine, the Southwest and so on.
Hidden, though, are background scenery and themes from other English-speaking countries -- Australia, Canada, Great Britain and South Africa. Normally, you can't access those backgrounds or themes, but there is a simple way you can install and use them:
1. In the search box in the Start menu, type C:\Windows\Globalization\MCT and press Enter. (Note: If Windows 7 is installed in a drive other than C:, use that letter instead.)
2. Windows Explorer will launch and show you a list of subfolders under C:\Windows\Globalization\MCT: MCT-AU, MCT-CA, MCT-GB, MCT-US, and MCT-ZA. Each subfolder has wallpapers for a specific country: AU for Australia, CA for Canada, GB for Great Britain, US for the United States, and ZA for South Africa.
For any of the countries whose wallpaper and themes you want to use, go into its Theme folder, for example, C:\Windows\Globalization\MCT\MCT-ZA\Theme. Double-click the theme you see there (for example ZA).

A South Africa theme, ready to use.

3. That will install a shortcut to the theme and wallpapers in the Personalization section of Control Panel.
You can now use them as you would any other theme or background, by right-clicking the desktop, choosing Personalize, and choosing a background or theme. They will be listed in their own section.

Top 10 Players Who Will Be Missing World Cup 2010

Preparations for the 'greatest show on earth' are well underway, with the South African big top set to throw open its doors on 11th June 2010.

On display will football's elite, with teams from the four corners of the earth set to dazzle and amaze the millions keeping tabs on their every move.

Some will freeze in the glare of the global spotlight, with their performances quickly consigned to the history books.

For others, though, superstardom beckons, with the world ready to embrace new heroes - whoever they may be.

With so much talent on show, there can be no doubting that profiles will be raised, price tags will soar and shirt sales will boom.

This is, after all, the World Cup and it deserves to be graced by the biggest names football has to offer.

Unfortunately, for some the dream of strutting their stuff in South Africa has already been dashed, with next summer set to see them jetting off to Dubai and Perth rather than Durban and Pretoria.

The likes of Thierry Henry, Cristiano Ronaldo, Diego Forlan and Andrey Arshavin could all yet be forced to re-arrange their plans, with the play-offs holding the key to their fate, but at least their destiny remains in their own hands.

Others are not so fortunate, so here skysports.com's Chris Burton takes a look at a few of those who will be booking their holidays in 2010 as far away from the action as possible.

Emmanuel Adebayor - Togo

One of the most fearsome frontmen in the Premier League, Adebayor has established a glowing reputation over recent years. He is widely regarded as one of the finest exponents of his trade in European football, with his physical stature complemented perfectly by a deft touch and keen eye for goal. The Manchester City ace has already graced the World Cup, in 2006, but he misses out this time around following Togo's failure to secure a safe passage through qualification. As such, he is likely to make for a reluctant audience when a number of his City team-mates return to Eastlands with tall tales of their exploits in South Africa.

Ninja Squad! ROLL OUT!

Police here have formed a special Ninja Squad in an effort to curb wayside robberies, including snatch thefts, in the city.

The unit, equipped with nine Kawasaki KLX250 scrambler motorcycles, patrol the streets wearing full-faced helmets, jeans and boots.

The 16-man team from the Johor Baru (South) district police headquarters is usually deployed at crime hotspots in the city.

Chief Insp Mohd Saufi Mohd Kassim, who leads the squad, said the team was formed three months ago.

“The squad was created to combat street crime within the crime-prone areas in the city,” he said.

C/Insp Mohd Saufi said the team regularly patrolled areas around Larkin, Pelangi and the city centre.

Digital Valley IT Centre - OPENING SOON !

Okay, okay.. I know.. Another IT mall, so what's the big deal? Well, for Johor Bahru it is kinda a big deal! Compared to its counterpart Kuala Lumpur, an IT mall is such a rare sight here. No thanks to stiff competition from neighboring country Singapore, online IT retailers and even Kuala Lumpur's most famous IT mall, Lowyat Plaza. So how can another IT mall survive here?

As many Johor Bahru dwellers might have known, there is already an IT mall located in the town, which is called Landmark Mall. Although it still exists until today, it seems Landmark Mall is not yet a hit among the people in JB. It is the location? Competition from other IT shops scattered all around? These questions remain to be answered.

Anyway, let's hope this Digital Valley will turn out to be a successful IT landmark with competitive prices and a whole variety of products to offer! The Digital Valley will be opening this Friday, 13th of November, 2009.

The Affects of Internet Addiction

While internet is fast becoming a part of our lives, it's still not without its own negative impact towards one's life. Here are the affects of being an internet addict:
  1. Precious time is wasted in a meaningless way when time is usually never enough in one's life.
  2. Severs the family bonding and friendship which could lead to disharmony, stress and isolation.
  3. Might cause damage to the eye sight if one sits too long in front of the monitor which emits harmful electromagnetic radiation.
  4. Isolated by family members and friends because one spends too much time on the internet and does not give a bother about them.
  5. Humans need ample time to rest and sleep. Internet addiction will cause minimum sleep time which could lead to serious illnesses.

New Xbox 360 DVD case - ATROCIOUS!

According to a LYN forummer, here, a new design of DVD casing for Xbox 360 games have been taking place in some of the newly released games such as Tekken 6, DJ Hero, Bayonetta and Magnacarta 2.

While this is not going to be a problem to most, it is still not a wise move by Microsoft because the tray is not as sturdy as the old case.

Old Case

To better illustrate, view these pics. Just look at how flimsy and unsafe the case is and if some sharp objects accidentally made it through the case, surely something bad would happen to the DVD. This is not good for gamers who take absolute care of their precious games. Like yours truly :-)

Google - Not So Lucky This Time

Google, Google .. you are always full of surprises :-)

It seems this time, Google purposely left a blank space under their search bar and leaves a "This space intentionally left blank" message. This means, you can no longer see the "I'm feeling lucky" button.

It loads from

to

However, the interface for Google in Malaysia still remains the same.

Could this be the end for the "I'm Feeling Lucky" button?

D-Link DSL-500T

I was scouring my store the other day hoping to find something valuable (yeah, I wish) and surprisingly, I found my trusty old router's box, complete with quick installation guide and user manual CD. When most people have been upgrading their router to a more high-tech fancy kind, believe it or not, I am still using this router till today! (knock on wood) Well I guess what they say is true, if it ain't broken, don't fix it. :-)

Here's a pic of it :

Before I decide to get rid of the box, here I upload these PDFs included in the CD. Maybe it might be useful to someone. Here they are :
Enjoy! :-)
